TRENDS IN DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN SMALL RUSSIAN CITIES: ECONOMIC ASPECT

Abstract

Article considers the role of higher education in modern conditions of development of society and economy. Providing training of highly qualified specialists, including in modern fields of economic knowledge, digital technologies, and ICT, higher education acts as a factor of economic growth, and its high level of development can be considered as a competitive advantage of country. It is emphasized that functioning of universities in many cases is a condition for ensuring the socio-economic development of small cities in Russia and adjacent territories. In this regard, the need for state support of higher education in small and mediumsized cities of Russia is justified.
